Here at Alpine Veterinary Hospital, we pride ourselves on having high quality, top of the line medical and surgical treatment of all animals. Exotics and birds are not our primary species of expertise, and we often refer cases to specialists. However, we are more than willing and excited to do our best for your pet. This service includes mainly birds, but also pocket-pets (e.g. hamsters, rabbits, rats, etc.), lizards, and amphibians to a lesser degree.
Radiography
Our X-Ray machine is versatile in that it can be used in-house and in the field! Radiographs allow us to see things that we are unable to feel or see with the naked eye. Many diagnoses require the use of x-rays such as wing fractures, bullet wounds, egg binding, lung tumors, and much more.
Surgery
Our doctors have performed many routine surgeries on pocket-pets (e.g. spays) and mass removals, as well as more complicated wing fracture repairs in birds. Our veterinary technicians are confident and proficient at maintaining anesthesia on many species of animals and are a great help to the doctors during these sometimes tricky procedures.
Dentistry
These critters frequently need beak and teeth trimming.
In-house Laboratory
We have blood machines that help us to evaluate multiple parameters in our small and large animals including CBC and Blood Chemistries. A CBC, or Complete Blood Count, assesses the animal’s white blood cells (infection fighting cells), red blood cells (oxygen carrying cells), and platelets (clotting cells). The Chemistry panels help us to evaluate the health of multiple organ systems including the liver and kidney.
Our doctors and veterinary technicians are also proficient at preparing microscope slides in order to evaluate blood and tissue smears, cytologies, bacterial samples, fecal floats, urine sediments, and more.
